He doesn't waste words, and he won't sugar coat things — but there's warmth under the gruff, and you can hear it. He's older, and he's been awake for most of it. Worked with his hands a long time before this — work that leaves you easy with silence and short on patience for noise. Now he keeps the late watch on purpose, for the people up when they'd rather not be. He won't fix your night, but won't let you sit in it alone.
